Your questions answered

Our role and court support
Are you solicitors?
No. We are not a law firm or an SRA-regulated solicitors’ practice. We do not tell you what your legal rights are or how strong your case is. If you need a solicitor, we will tell you.
What is a McKenzie Friend?
Someone who supports a person representing themselves in court, for example by helping organise papers, taking notes and giving quiet support, where the court permits.
Will you speak for me in court?
A McKenzie Friend does not speak for you; a judge can allow it only in exceptional circumstances, and we will not ask for that.
Getting in touch and deadlines
Who will I speak to?
Billy Kukadia or Pravesh Rajdev.
What happens after I send an enquiry?
We aim to reply within one working day to arrange a call.
What should I put in the form?
A short outline only. Please do not include medical details, bank details or case documents.
What should I do first if I've got a deadline?
Note the date on the letter. If you need more time, ask whoever sent it. Then get in touch with us early, so there is time to help. You can ask for a priority consultation, and our help and support lines page lists free services.
What should I bring to our first meeting?
The letter or form, the date on it, any reference number, and copies of anything you have already sent.
Will you keep my information confidential?
Access to your information is limited to those who need it, and the providers we work with receive only what is needed for their role. We may disclose information where the law requires it or where you authorise it for your service. We do not sell your information. Our privacy policy explains this in full.
Fees, AI and your information
Can I cancel?
Distance contracts have a 14-day cancellation period. If you ask us in writing to start sooner, we charge a proportionate amount for work done.
What happens to my fee if my hearing is moved or cancelled?
If the court moves your hearing, your fee carries over to the new date. If the hearing does not go ahead, or the judge does not permit us to attend, we refund the attendance fee, less any travel costs already booked and agreed with you in writing.
What if English is not my first language?
Billy speaks English and Gujarati directly, with conversational support in Hindi. For other languages, we use carefully chosen AI translation tools, and we will always tell you when we are using them.
Do you use AI?
We use AI translation tools for languages other than English, Gujarati and Hindi, and we tell you when we use them. Billy or Pravesh write and check everything we prepare with you.
What if I'm unhappy with your service?
Contact us with the details of your complaint, the work involved and what you would like us to put right. We will acknowledge your complaint, review the relevant records and explain our findings and any proposed remedy in writing. If you remain unhappy, ask for a further review and we will explain any available next steps.
Free introductory consultation — 15 to 30 minutes. Request a time and Billy or Pravesh will ring you to agree it. No obligation to proceed.
